What If? – ¿Y Si?

Two years ago I stood at my desk in the hot and humid upstairs of our first building. Wedged in around boxes of bras, I stood in front of the fan by the window staring directly across the street at a large building. A “For Sale” sign had just been hung up.

What if we could somehow get that space?

A year later and we were there. We were in the building, renting it, stretching each month but it was happening. There was room to breathe, to work, to receive clients, to host a small church on the weekends. Then there was the chance to buy it, to make a plan to pay it off, to make it ours.

But what if there was more?

Jump ahead six months and my head was bent over our conference table with our other staff members…dreaming, planning, asking all the questions about serving our community in deeper ways and finding out what our clients really need. A nine-month process of planning, strategizing, hiring new staff, and meeting with clients began. Not a coincidence that a pregnancy also takes as long.

What if we could birth something new?

Fast forward to last Thursday, the official birthday of the Lighthouse Resource Center. Like any birthday there was a lot of stress, sweat, and nervous butterflies leading up to the big event. But then there was joy and there was celebration. In January, we opened the doors of the Lighthouse Resource Center for our existing clients to help them adapt. The day of our official launch, we opened the doors for our entire city.

What if healing can come?

What if we can change our neighborhood?

What if people can realize their dreams?

What if they can make a new future?

What if God will let us be a part of that?

We are a part, our clients are a part, our donors are a part, and if you are reading this we invite you to find your own part too.

What if our city will never be the same again?

That’s what we are counting on.

¿Y si pudiéramos dar a luz algo nuevo?

One Response to What If? – ¿Y Si?

  1. When I read this article I felt really moved by the Holy Spirit to put ‘What if?’ into my ministry context. I live in Darwin, Australia, volunteering in a small food relief program in our church to the community. I’m asking the question What if? and looking to the LORD for direction. The path has not been fully laid out but I’m praying into it and hopeful there will be more for our community in reaching them with God’s love. Thank you for encouraging me across the other side of God’s world.
