Last month we had the joy and privilege of hosting a team of medical professionals from Mission to the World. They brought with them their expertise and their medications, but more than that they brought their hearts.

They visited the cancer ward of a local children’s hospital in partnership with CCI, our church here in El Salvador and they spent four straight days seeing patients onsite at the Lighthouse Project, and also at the Latin American Children’s Fund Clinic. They didn’t complain about the heat and long days, they simply loved and cared for our clients.

One of the members of the team works in the physical therapy world and on the second day at the Lighthouse Project he was seeing one of our clients. She had many aches and pains from a lifetime of hard work and difficulty. She was tired and frustrated from the pain. Her feet were throbbing. She asked the young man on the team what he could do and he began to ease the pain with his touch and with some soothing cream. You could see her face light up with the attention and the relief. When he finished she turned to him with a smile and said, “I have two feet!” He didn’t hesitate, but simply worked to alleviate the aches in her other foot.

Throughout the week hundreds of clients were seen, and each member of the team used the same love and care to minister to the needs of each one. Our clients are accustomed to people crossing to the other side of the street when they walk by, or treating them like they are less than human. For them, to have these team members listen to them, care for them, and pray for them means more than simply receiving a physical check-up. For our clients, this team brought healing to both their bodies and souls.

El mes pasado tuvimos el privilegio de recibir a un equipo de profesionales médicos de la organización Mission to the World. No sólo trajeron su experticia en su campo de trabajo y medicamentos, sino también su corazón.

Tuvieron la oportunidad de visitar el área para niños con cáncer del Hospital Bloom con el apoyo de Centro Cristiano Internacional (CCI), nuestra iglesia en El Salvador. Además, pasaron 4 días seguidos atendiendo pacientes en el Proyecto El Faro y también en la clínica de Latin American Children´s Fund (LACF, por sus siglas en Inglés). En ningún momento se quejaron del calor y las jornadas largas, ¡simplemente les encantaba cuidar de nuestros clientes!

Uno de los miembros del Equipo Médico se desempeña en el área de la terapia física. El segundo día de la jornada en El Faro, atendió a uno de nuestros clientes, quien se quejaba de muchos dolores a causa de una vida difícil realizando trabajos muy pesados. Ella estaba cansada y frustrada, y sus pies le dolían en extremo. Le preguntó al joven terapista qué podía hacer y él simplemente comenzó a aliviar su dolor con su toque y crema. Se podía ver la cara de esta mujer iluminándose con la atención y el alivio recibido. Cuando él terminó, esta mujer lo vio con una sonrisa y le dijo: “¡Tengo dos pies!”. Así que, sin dudarlo, él comenzó a trabajar en su otro pie…

Durante toda la semana, decenas de pacientes fueron atendidos y cada miembro del Equipo puso en práctica el mismo amor y cuidado para ministrar las necesidades de cada uno. Nuestros clientes están acostumbrados a que la gente se cruce al otro lado de la calle cuando los ven venir en la misma dirección, o tratarles como si fueran menos que seres humanos. Para ellos, tener miembros de Equipos que les escuchan, les brindan cuidados y oran por ellos significa mucho más que sólo recibir un simple examen médico. Para nuestros clientes este Equipo trajo, tanto sanidad para sus cuerpos, como para sus almas.
