It’s the day after Christmas. The house is a mess, the presents are unwrapped. The shopping and rushing and gathering has stopped. The anticipation and magic and waiting is over.

This is when the real work begins.

The coming of Jesus, God Incarnate, was just the beginning. After his life and death and return to heaven, our calling, our work began. So today we consider…what is our task? The following poem was written by Howard Thurman, an African-American theologian and civil rights leader. He was one who understood that because of God with us, there is much work for those who follow him.

Let us begin.

“The Work of Christmas”

When the song of the angels is stilled,

when the star in the sky is gone,

when the kings and princes are home,

when the shepherds are back with their flocks,

the work of Christmas begins:

to find the lost,

to heal the broken,

to feed the hungry,

to release the prisoner,

to rebuild the nations,

to bring peace among the people,

to make music in the heart.

Es el día después de navidad. La casa es un desastre, los regalos han sido abiertos. Las compras, las prisas y las reuniones han parado ya. La anticipación, la magia y la espera han terminado.

Aquí es cuando comienza el verdadero trabajo.

La venida de Jesús, la encarnación de Dios, fue solo el comienzo. Nuestro llamado, nuestro trabajo inicia después de la vida, muerte y regreso al cielo de Jesús. Así que hoy consideremos … ¿cuál es nuestra tarea? El siguiente poema fue escrito por Howard Thurman, un teólogo afroamericano y líder de los derechos civiles. Él entendió que, debido a que Dios estaba con nosotros, hay mucho trabajo para quienes lo seguimos.
